Ruskin Lace (starting April 2026) 3 dates

This distinctive form of lace is made with a needle and thread in linen fabric using a combination of drawn-thread and cut-linen work with the geometric designs being completed with needlepoint lace techniques specific to Ruskin Lace. Your tutor, Karen Quickfall, is the country’s leading expert on Ruskin Lace and recently published the book, ‘Ruskin Lace – A Complete Guide’. The course is suitable for both beginners (who can purchase a starter pack from the tutor) and those with more experience.

Deer Head (Thursday April 23rd, Friday 24th and Saturday 25th, 2026)
With Bryony Rose Jennings
In this three day workshop you will work alongside textile sculptor Bryony Rose Jennings to create your own wall mounted deer head. Bryony is a textile sculptor living on the beautiful Hampshire coast. The Textile Menagerie is her imaginary storyland of creatures. She uses reclaimed textiles in her work, a soft, worn medium that carries the imprints of lives previously encountered. Old cloth, conveying a sense of history, lends itself perfectly to her endeavours.

Heritage Reimagined: Contemporary Tassel Making with Elizabeth Ashdown(Thursday May 7th, Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th)
One of only a few hand Passementerie artists working in the UK today, Elizabeth combines traditional and endangered craft skills with a contemporary aesthetic in order to create innovative passementerie. She is the author of Passementerie, Handcrafting contemporary trimmings, tassels, fringes and more published by Schiffer Craft. In 2025 Elizabeth’s award-winning collaboration with Samuel & Sons, called Kaleidoscope was released.
This is a 3 day workshop.

EMILY JO GIBBS (Friday May 29th and Saturday May 30th 2026)
Emily Jo Gibbs has established an international reputation for her hand-stitched portraits and still-lifes, observing the quiet beauty of the overlooked. Predominantly working with silk organza layered on to linen. Emily enjoys the translucent nature of the silk and the soft colour pallet the layering creates. She stitches in a meticulous way often using tiny stab stitches.

NICOLA JARVIS - Projects from her book 'Life in Seasons' (Thursday September 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th, 2026)
Nicola is an artist who combines drawing, painting and stitch to make her work. She has been active in the embroidery industry for 34 years, is a fellow of the Royal School of Needlework and holds a Commendation from the Beryl Dean Award for Excellence in Teaching.

MASAKO NEWTON (Friday September 25th and Saturday 26th, 2026)
Project: Silk shading and Stumpwork Hellebore – three dimensional brooch.
Masako Newton FRSN (Fellow of Royal School of Needlework) is a London-based embroidery artist, originally from Japan. As a studio embroiderer for RSN Embroidery Studio, she has worked on many high-profile projects, but she also welcomes private commissions. She also teaches bespoke classes and private lessons on request.
This is a two day workshop.
MELISSA COKE-SMYTH - CREATIVE NEEDLEPOINT , Whimsy in Thread and Stitch. (over two weekends -Friday/ Saturday October 16th/17th AND Friday/Saturday November 13th/14th)
Project: Creative Needlepoint incorporating a range of foundational stitches while exploring the threads and fibres that make needlepoint so expressive.
Melissa was taught needlepoint by her great-grandmother at age five and has been teaching and designing for over 25 years in America and the UK. A graduate of the Royal School of Needlework, she spent years managing and teaching at Needlepoint of Back Bay in Boston, and now continues working with students from complete beginners to experienced stitchers.
Please note that this is a four day workshop over two weekends, one in October and the other in November, to allow participants to work on the design in between. It is perfect for complete beginners or those with some experience of embroidery.
