This 3 day workshop offers you the opportunity to work alongside textile sculptor Bryony Rose Jennings to create your own textile sculptured deer head
During the workshop we will explore a unique approach to sculpting with textiles, using wire or stuffed elements to create the main body of our Foxes, constructing a form using a basic pattern, onto which we can then layer, patch, stuff and sculpt with stitch to help them take shape.
As our darling deers take shape, the magic of this process unfurls; a personality will begin to emerge. You will be given lots of guidance to help you bring the suggestion of life to your creation, adding the features and developing the character of your piece, exploring ways to suggest expression embellishing with fabric and stitch.
Students don’t always complete their work within the duration of the course, but you will go home with a fully formed animal and the knowledge needed to finish your work at your own pace.
ABILITY
This workshop is suitable for anyone with hand sewing experience.
However; Textile Sculpture is a step by step process – it does not provide immediate results. It can be fiddly, and requires some strength and dexterity in the hands. If it is something that interests you and you are willing to get really stuck in, perseverance, patience and determination will see you through.

There is an additional materials cost of £20.00 payable directly to Bryony at the workshop. This covers – aluminium sculpting wire and tape for antlers; internal wooden backboard; beads, paints and varnish to create eyes
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS LIST
FABRICS:
Polyester stuffing – I recommend bringing at least two value pillows from a supermarket or the equivalent of polyester stuffing.
A selection of fabrics that you would like to use to cover your sculpture; upholstery weight fabrics work well for the main form of your sculpture. To decorate – anything that floats your boat – from small scraps to larger pieces. A mixture of patterned fabrics, plain fabrics and a variety of weights and textures will be helpful.
TOOLS
Fabric Scissors and embroidery scissors
A selection of sewing needles, embroidery, darning and doll making
needles that are sharp, sturdy and long will be most useful.

On the weekends free parking is available at St James Place Headquarters on Old Tetbury Road (GL7 1FP), which is a three minute walk from the Museum.
Further parking is available from the Brewery Car Park (GL7 1HN) and Forum Car Park (GL7 1LJ), which are about a 5-10 minute walk from the Museum.
